Program Note:
Beyond the Break was written to serve as the last track on my debut portrait album. My intention was to create a moment of stillness and reflection - a coda for all the action that preceded it. As a stand alone piece though, I still imagine that this is music of aftermath, that something preceded it. In the title, the "break" refers to the break of the waves in the ocean where the surf is most tumultuous. This piece is about what lies beyond that space.

Programming Note: This piece is often paired with Shifting Sands, though it can be played as a stand-alone piece as well.
